Volunteers from around the country learned how to elevate the impact of their mentorship and take the AVCs and chapters they work with to the next level! Educational sessions included offerings from volunteer services, SigEp National Housing and quick, 20-minute talks by subject matter experts in the Hub. This range of sessions gave volunteers the opportunity to fully customize their schedule to fit their role and chapter needs.
Education kicked off on Thursday morning with a keynote from Dr. Rosalind Alderman, vice president for enrollment management at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Alderman shared insights about this generation of college students and the importance of mentors, coaches, and advisors. With her more than 30 years of experience in higher education and her enrollment services team’s insights, Alderman provided predictions about what the next wave of future members of SigEp will be like based on their work recruiting students to campus.
Following the keynote, the volunteer development committee and Headquarters’ volunteer services team shared what’s new and in the pipeline for volunteers. The volunteer development committee formed in 2021 to deliver on the National Board’s vision of more volunteers who are equipped to serve SigEp chapters. Thursday’s session most notably included the announcement of an updated Cox Volunteer Education Program, named in honor of Past Grand President Phil Cox, Indiana ’84. The Cox Volunteer Education Program is available anytime, anywhere through interactive online modules in mySigEp and in-person at the Phil Cox Volunteer Institute (held at Carlson Leadership Academies and Grand Chapter Conclave). Volunteers can participate in education sessions ranging from onboarding to advanced courses.
Educational sessions were a hit with many rooms full of volunteers and engaging conversations. Cox Volunteer Education Program modules from this year’s Conclave will be available on mySigEp soon.
