Iowa Delta member Joseph Mitchell, Drake ’19, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives this Election Day. Mitchell, 21, becomes the youngest member of the Iowa House by four years. He defeated three other candidates in the primary this spring and won his southeastern Iowa district with 61 percent of the vote.
“I decided to run for the Iowa House of Representatives because I want to give back to the community that gave me so much growing up,” he said. “I want to be able to make a change and be a part of bringing this country together once again.”
Mitchell pointed to his membership in SigEp as an advantage throughout the campaign: “My brothers in SigEp believe in me and have supported me every step of the way. They have even drove hours to my district to help me knock doors. I couldn’t have done this without them!”
Mitchell is a business administration major with a 4.0 GPA. He attended the Carlson Leadership Academy in 2016.
