It is with great pride that the brothers of the Illinois Nu Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Eastern Illinois University, announce that the 10th President of Eastern Illinois University, Dr. William Perry, has been initiated as a Renaissance brother.
The Renaissance of Brotherhood is a rare honor afforded to men that have lived a distinguished life embodying the fraternity’s guiding principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love. The chosen men have maintained a close relationship with the fraternity, and were never affiliated with another Fraternal Organization during their undergraduate tenure. Dr. Perry’s tenure at EIU afforded frequent opportunities to interact with the men of the Sig Ep chapter, as well as adult volunteers, Chapter Counselor Michelle Murphy and professor emeritus Dr. Charles Eberly, Bowling Green State ’63.
“The fraternity experience affords the members many opportunities to interact with the best of our community leaders, faculty, and administrators”, said Murphy. “Dr. Perry has always been a great friend and mentor of mine, and being able to cultivate that relationship between he and our members and watch it grow has been such an incredible experience and opportunity for our undergraduate brotherhood, and one that they so richly deserve.”
Former chapter president Christian Sammons, Eastern Illinois ’14, was honored to execute the invitation to President Perry.
“We do what we do every day to ensure that we meet the expectations set forth by our alumni and our national fraternity – academic excellence, a sound mind, a sound body – basically, living a balanced life. It doesn’t occur to us that anyone outside the fraternity will take note of what we are doing. So when the President of the University recognized that, and showed an interest inbeing involved, we were so proud and humbled that he’d want to align himself with us, and go through ritual to become a SigEp brother.”
