A national fraternity and sorority are taking to social media to educate college students about sexual assault prevention. Alpha Delta Pi Sorority (ADPi) and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity (SigEp) publically announced a national partnership today that will provide education to college students through YouTube.
An initial educational video addresses misconceptions about college sexual assaults and seeks to empower male and female members of the two organizations to help educate their peers. Both organizations currently offer in-person education for their more than 36,000 members, and the new videos seek to enhance this education by advancing the conversation about sexual assault prevention across campus communities.
The educational video builds on the momentum created by the White House’s It’s On Us campaign and features undergraduate fraternity and sorority members as spokespeople of the new partnership.
ADPi and SigEp also created educational resources to help other campus organizations, including other fraternities and sororities, educate members about sexual assault prevention. After completing the education, students are posting photos to social media of their groups with signs stating “I took an oath.” The social media campaign seeks to encourage students to lead their campuses in the fight against sexual assault.
“ADPi and SigEp recognize the need to advance the conversation around sexual assault prevention on our college campuses. We believe that a part of exemplifying our open motto, ‘We Live for Each Other,’ means being instrumental in the larger effort to create safer campuses,” said Alpha Delta Pi International President Tammie Pinkston.
SigEp CEO Brian Warren echoed her sentiment: “We’re taking a leadership role in the fight against campus sexual assaults. We believe that our members can bring male and female students together to have conversations that ultimately make our campuses safer.”
Pinkston and Warren also expressed hope that other fraternities, sororities and student organizations would be empowered by the education provided by the partnership.
