Celebrating our SigEp family of brothers and friends is one of our Fraternity’s most inspiring and longstanding traditions. So many things are different now from what we’re used to, but the one thing that will always be true is that SigEp continues to be an amazing brotherhood because of its brothers and volunteers. We’re grateful to have so many hard-working volunteers, dedicated seniors modeling the ways for younger brothers, chapters and AVCs succeeding in chapter operations remotely, and university partners advocating for the fraternity experience on our campuses. Acknowledging this greatness is a key to us surviving — and thriving — this school year.
In this unique time, where we won’t be seeing each other at the Carlson Leadership Academies in 2021, we’ve decided to take the opportunity to celebrate these accomplishments year-round. If you know a chapter, volunteer, AVC or undergraduate brother that exemplifies our cardinal principles and is deserving of praise, take a moment to acknowledge them in our new, simplified awards nomination form. Award presentations will be ongoing with spurts of celebration each month, and there are even some surprise ceremonial highlights in the works!
Grand President Tom Jelke, Florida International ’90, shared why celebrating SigEp’s accomplishments has taken on extra meaning for him this year. “Being isolated for several months has made me want to connect with our brothers and let them know how much they mean to me and to SigEp. I often drop into their Zoom meetings or reunions, and what has brought the biggest smile to their faces is when they start talking about the successes their chapter, leaders and volunteers have had during this crazy time. I realize now more than ever, they need to know how special they are,” he added.
As we navigate the challenges of this unprecedented year, remember that even though things have changed, we are still surrounded by SigEp greats. Help us acknowledge those who have successfully led chapter operations throughout this pandemic, are spending their time mentoring undergraduates from a distance, and are acting as our advocates and partners on campus, whether that’s virtual or in-person.
Encourage the SigEp heart. Learn more about the awards and nominate a brother, chapter, volunteer or AVC today.
PS: We still plan to give out our prestigious Conclave awards in Denver in summer 2021. Nominations for those awards will go live in the coming few months!
