Arete: Bob Gamgort

Categories: Arete

Bob Gamgort, Bucknell ’84
Former Chairman, Keurig Dr Pepper

A major player in the consumer products industry for 40 years, Bob Gamgort cut his teeth in marketing, sales and strategy roles at Kraft Foods (and its predecessor, General Foods). He later served as North American president of Mars Inc. before being tapped in 2009 to lead Pinnacle Foods, which produced household staples like Birds Eye frozen foods and Vlasic pickles. After steering Pinnacle through a successful IPO, he became CEO of Keurig Green Mountain in 2016 and became the first CEO and chair of Keurig Dr Pepper when the company formed in 2018.

The Journal spoke with Gamgort shortly after he announced he would be stepping off the KDP board of directors on April 1, 2026, to focus on new investment and advisory opportunities.

Q&A

How did your previous roles prepare you to lead Keurig Dr Pepper for its first 10 years?
I’ve had the opportunity to work on iconic brands across a wide range of roles. Most importantly, I worked with exceptional leaders whose generous mentorship shaped how I think and lead.

What’s next for Keurig Dr Pepper?
KDP has the #1 at-home coffee system in North America and a leading cold beverage portfolio anchored by Dr Pepper, now the #2 soft drink in the U.S. Following the acquisition ofJDE Peets (a global coffee company), KDP will separate into two businesses: a leading pure-play global coffee company and a fast-growing North American beverage company.

What attracted you to the consumer products industry?
I’ve always enjoyed working on beloved brands used daily by millions. Success comes from understanding evolving consumer needs and keeping brands relevant through bold marketing. With consumers, competitors and technology constantly changing, I’ve had to stay on top of my game.

How have you navigated obstacles or opportunities in your career?
I’ve found that navigating obstacles and seizing opportunities requires a career “compass” — grounded in mission, strategy and values — rather than a “map” that’s outdated the moment it’s drawn and doesn’t encourage flexibility. Experience has helped me continually refine that compass.

Thinking about your time in college, what memories come to mind?
My four years at Bucknell had an outsized impact on my life. The education, experiences and friendships broadened my perspective and raised personal expectations. I also met my wife of 38 years there, which gives us a lifetime of shared memories that began on campus.

How did your experience as a member of Pennsylvania Kappa influence you after college?
It fostered lifelong friendships, strengthened my personal and professional network, and gave me early leadership opportunities. SigEp was a pivotal part of my college experience — and of who I am today.
