125th anniversary ushers in era of celebration

Categories: Commentary

SigEp’s 125th birthday (that’s a lot of candles) is fast approaching! Such a milestone is certainly an event to celebrate, and that’s exactly what we plan to do!

Our “125th Anniversary Era” will officially kick off on our birthday, Nov. 1, 2026, better known to all of us as Founders Day. Do expect this to be a Founders Day and Founders Day of Giving like no other. With unprecedented social media outreach, we hope it will be a record-breaking Founders Day of Giving, culminating with the biggest birthday cake we’ve ever baked!

Throughout the 125th era, also expect to be contacted by your chapter to help them celebrate at the local level. All chapters will be encouraged to participate and be educated on how best to take advantage of this milestone by having chapter reunions, scholarship fundraisers, and/or community service events. Headquarters staff will be trained and ready to counsel chapters and provide social media/event planning kits of sorts to make it as easy as possible to plan, execute and publicize these activities.

Such milestones as this also give us the opportunity for storytelling about our past challenges and accomplishments — and about the brothers who stepped up and made lasting contributions to our Fraternity. Over the course of the 125th Era, which will culminate at our 60th Grand Chapter Conclave in Phoenix (July 21-25, 2027), look for monthly articles, social media posts and videos on our various channels highlighting many of the seminal events and monumental brothers that have made SigEp what it is today.

And finally, we encourage you to take advantage of this milestone by attending our Grand Chapter Conclave in Phoenix. Always the largest Fraternity gathering in the Greek world, Conclave is about much more than passing legislation that guides our Fraternity for the next two years. It is also an opportunity to come together as a united brotherhood to celebrate the very special nature of what it means to be a SigEp. For example, for many, it will be the first time they have been exposed to our Ritual since they themselves were initiated into SigEp.

Our overriding theme for this celebration, “Keeping the Promise,” harkens back to the very beginning of our Fraternity and to the words of SigEp Founding Father and first initiate, Carter Ashton Jenkens. It was Brother Jenkens who first spoke these words about SigEp: “This Fraternity will be different.” We’ve done our best to keep this promise over the last 125 years. We no doubt will do our best over the next 125.

— Joe Langella Jr., Connecticut ’83
Chair, SigEp 125th
Anniversary Task Force
