Volunteer Spotlight: Scott Frakes, Bowling Green State ’92

Categories: Alumni & Volunteer News

Name: Scott Frakes
Alma mater: Bowling Green State ’92
Occupation: Senior Regional Director, Crossmark Global Investments
Primary Volunteer Role: Mentor for Vice President of Recruitment, Missouri Beta AVC

What is the Phillip A. Cox Volunteer Institute?
Local SigEp volunteers coming together for a one-day training program. Headquarters provides on-site program leaders that bring cutting-edge innovation to your doorstep. The mission is to provide you and your team all the resources you need to succeed as a volunteer. It’s fun too!

What was the biggest lesson you’ve learned at the Cox Institute?
SigEp needs heroes, we need volunteers. I have a wife and two daughters; SigEp is an opportunity for me to help the son I never had.

Why does SigEp need heroes, especially volunteers?
Many current SigEp students never had a mentor in their life. This is an opportunity for you to change that. Ninety percent of the college experience is spent outside the classroom. What are young men going to do with that time? As a mentor, you can share your life lessons about making good choices. And, we have so much to learn from today’s young people. The mentor experience helps keep you open-minded to innovation in all aspects of life.

Why do you choose to be a mentor for SigEp undergraduates?
SigEp has given me more than I can ever give back. SigEp helped me grow up. I owe the Fraternity for showing me the way to be a better friend, family member and business partner.

Why does volunteer training need to be a priority for SigEp?
Without volunteer training, we lack a consistent plan to rally behind. When all of the local volunteers are moving in the same direction, amazing results happen.

Why should other volunteers attend a Cox Institute?
SigEp is on the cutting edge of volunteer training. The innovation that is shared will help you execute better as a team to help your local chapter thrive. If you’re lucky, the Cox Institute will also help you be a better friend, family member and business partner in your career.
