A few weeks ago I received an amazing surprise. As I clicked through my email inbox, I saw an unexpected message from SigEp’s Educational Foundation. When I opened the email, I saw the following:
“Kent, a gift was made in your honor through the Hoop of Steel Society. Mentors define our SigEp experience. They believe in our potential and help us get there faster. Brother Max Marcucci, American ’15, chose to honor you with his Hoop of Steel Society gift.”
As an alumnus and long time donor to SigEp, it’s hard for me to express how much this means to me.
When I was an undergraduate at the University of Colorado, I had my own alumni mentor, Past Grand President and Order of the Golden Heart recipient Charles “Charlie” Patch, Colorado ‘12. Charlie advised me in accounting and ethics, sometimes criticizing my work, but always giving me his full support. Without his constant guidance, I would not have succeeded, and the skills I took away from my SigEp years paved the way to the fruitful years that have followed.
Ever since graduating, I’ve wanted to give back the huge financial benefits I received as an undergraduate SigEp, and have done so through leadership grants and donations to the Educational Foundation. More importantly though, being recognized through the Hoop of Steel Society intensifies my wish to give back the intangible benefits I received while interacting with the many undergraduates and alumni who influenced me throughout my journey.
Thank you for your gift, Max. I’m honored to have been recognized by you, and I expect to see your name popping up in the Fraternity for many years to come.
