Building the future, honoring the past

Categories: Alumni & Volunteer News

Note: This story was originally published in the spring 2026 issue of Wisconsin Beta’s SigEp Badger Beat newsletter as part of SigEp’s Alumni Communication Program.

As members of Sigma Phi Epsilon, we share a bond that has shaped our character, strengthened our values and forged lifelong friendships. Our chapter house is a place where leadership is developed, service is embraced and our new legacy will be built.

Wisconsin Beta is beginning a new era with its return to 237 Langdon Street and a renewed presence on campus. Successfully launching this era will depend on engagement and support from our alumni and volunteers.

Progress at 237 Langdon Street

After years of occupancy by Phi Delta Theta, the house remains structurally sound. As expected of any chapter facility, it is showing wear and requires repairs, aesthetic updates and targeted mechanical upgrades. Our goal is to deliver the house back to our undergraduates in a condition worthy of Sigma Phi Epsilon for generations to come.

To ensure the work meets our highest standards, we have engaged a campus-housing firm with experience preparing Fraternity properties for return to campus. Completed or scheduled improvements include:

  • Elevator repairs: $6,156
  • Hot water heater replacement: $17,000
  • Whole-building leak detection system: $4,000

In parallel, we are working with the current tenants to address their responsibility for deferred maintenance and items beyond normal wear.

Furnishings and financial needs

Reopening the chapter house requires fully furnishing the facility with durable, institutional-grade items to include beds and mattresses, desks and chairs, dining and conference furniture, and common-area seating.

We anticipate spending $100,000 on repairs, furnishings and upgrades. To place orders and begin work for this coming fall, we will need $50,000 by May 1. To date, $14,482 has been generously raised by 19 donors. Every contribution helps us stay on schedule and prepares 237 Langdon for SigEp’s future on campus.

A permanent way to honor your legacy

The Legacy Walk brick paver program was created to support operational and reopening expenses associated with the return to the chapter house. Beginning in 2027, a custom-designed walkway of engraved brick pavers will be installed at the house. These pavers will form a permanent tribute to the alumni who helped strengthen Wisconsin Beta during this foundational period. Undergraduates will walk this path daily, alumni will gather there during homecoming and reunions and the engraved names will stand as a reminder of the brotherhood that built this chapter.

With alumni support, 237 Langdon Street will be renewed as a home that reflects the leadership, values and brotherhood of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Every contribution leaves a lasting mark on the house and the next generation of Wisconsin Beta brothers.

Join us in honoring our past, strengthening our present, and building a future worthy of our brotherhood.

Fraternally,

Kevin Koerner , Wisconsin ’84

AVC Vice President of Housing
