SigEp reaches another milestone

Categories: Press Releases, Substance-free Facilities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

7 June 2018

SigEp has achieved yet another milestone in our mission to create a new normal for fraternities.

At the 2017 Conclave, our undergraduates voted to make all of our chapter home common spaces substance-free by August 2018 and totally substance-free by 2020. Every housed SigEp chapter has now adopted a local substance-free facilities measure for their chapter. Meanwhile, two other fraternities have declared that their chapter homes will be substance-free by August of 2020 — Beta Theta Pi announced their decision in February and Delta Upsilon shared the news last month.

It is not a coincidence that, as our chapters are confidently implementing this new normal, other fraternities are taking notice and taking action. Faced with the challenge of creating a relevant fraternity experience that we can all be proud of, our brothers once again surpassed all expectations. And they will continue to do so until SigEp is known and celebrated around the country as an organization committed to strengthening character, empowering young leaders and developing healthy friendships for life.

Thanks to the hard work of our undergraduates and volunteers, substance-free homes across the country will now complement the Balanced Man Program by creating a safer environment designed to engage faculty, alumni, parents, and other volunteers invested in the success of our SigEp chapters.

I pledged Ohio Gamma in 1964 and was initiated in 1965. Ohio Gamma had eliminated hazing of pledges.

I left for the US Naval Academy, which was and is substance and alcohol free. I have kept in touch with SigEp. I have been impressed with the way that SigEp has been a leader in Greek life. I am proud that I joined SigEp in 1964. The USA needs the Greek system and needs a leader like SigEp.

I am so pleased to read this announcement and to know that MY fraternity is leading the way, one more time, to doing things that are so helpful to the members AND to the colleges/universities they are members of.

So glad to see Sig Ep, once again, model great behavior for others to follow. Our founding fathers of the fraternity focused on these values to be true and worthy to and for all of us. GO SIG EP !!!
