Always striving to be an all-rounder, Prashanth Chandrasekar, Maine ’02, was drawn to SigEp for the balanced man philosophy, which deeply resonated with him. In school, Prashanth did his best academically while pursuing interests such as sports, fraternity life and music to have a multidimensional life.
Throughout his time in SigEp and after graduating, Prashanth lived by SigEp’s principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love. “They are timeless principles and truisms in many ways to build a successful career. Staying true to living a high integrity life, hard work and building high-trust relationships with mutual respect are core to my approach to leading organizations.”
Prashanth is honored to have led a high-impact community and company as the CEO of Stack Overflow for the past six years. “We serve over 100 million users around the world, and our team has worked hard to transform the company from a popular, public platform that serves the world’s software developers to an enterprise software company serving hundreds of the world’s largest enterprises with our private knowledge platform, Stack Internal. This has been quite a journey, and we’re only getting started as we position our company and products as a core part of the AI technology stack.”
“We raised our Series E financing round of $85 million in the middle of the pandemic with hundreds of Zoom calls (and my son and daughter playing the drums and piano in the background!),” Prashanth shared about his career highlights. “The successful fundraiser kicked our enterprise ambitions into high gear, which then ultimately led to our acquisition a year later.”
Outside of work, Prashanth serves on the University of Maine’s Board of Visitors, where he enjoys the opportunity to provide an outside-in perspective to UMaine to help the university realize its full potential. “UMaine has so many amazing attributes (programs, culture, location, etc.) that are not fully recognized at the national and international level. The goal is to make UMaine a standout winner in the years to come.”
Reflecting on his SigEp experience, Prashanth recalls that the Fraternity was instrumental in his development as a young leader and international student looking to acclimatize to American life. “I deeply appreciate the friendships and care that Maine Alpha fosters in its chapter, all rooted in excellent principles.”
A proud contributor to A Tradition of Excellence – The Campaign for Maine Alpha, he shares, “It’s only appropriate to give back to the chapter during a time of rejuvenation.”
Prashanth met his wife in graduate school, and they have a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son. Prashanth’s younger brother, Priyanth, and sister-in-law, Anh Do, also graduated from UMaine.
In his free time, Prashanth enjoys playing guitar, working out and learning something new every year. He gets together with a group of SigEp brothers every year or two. “We’ve supported each other through various moments (good and not so good), and we still stay grounded in the same friendships that made the experience at Maine Alpha so special.”
