Max Hoxie, VP of Member Development at Drake University `22, began his career pursuit in corporate law only to realize that may not be his only passion. Recognizing the benefits of exploring other career options, Brother Hoxie signed up to participate in not one, but three career coaching sessions to meet with different alumni brothers who could share valuable insights in different industries to help him determine his career pursuit. He met a brother who is a corporate lawyer, one who is the vice president of sales for a food corporation and a third who is a marketing professor and very involved in the American Marketing Association (AMA).
“I learned a lot about the fields I’m interested in from alumni who are subject matter experts, and they provided post-graduation education options in addition to career options,” Max said. I definitely feel more prepared and am excited to utilize the tips, tricks and skills I learned through my SigEp Career Coaching sessions.”
During each of his sessions, Max and his coaches further developed his resume and interview skills, discussed internship opportunities, and how to utilize LinkedIn for networking. Max continues to have regularly scheduled follow-ups and communications with one career coach who has sparked his interest in a marketing career. He has also discussed seeking internship opportunities or obtaining his master’s degree with his coach.
