How has SigEp shaped your life path? For Andy Chaffee, San Diego State ’87, the alumni network remains an integral part of his social connections. He appreciates California Delta’s influence on his development and looks back on his college years with fond memories.
An unforgettable atmosphere
“I was initially against the entire fraternity experience,” Andy said. But he visited the SigEp house at San Diego State when invited by a childhood friend and quickly changed his perspective after discovering the diverse group of members. “I took great pride in that variety; it wasn’t a ‘cookie-cutter’ group, and I truly enjoyed the different perspectives of my brothers.”
Andy made countless SigEp memories through “TJ Takeovers,” performances during Sorority Sing and the Greek Talent Show, social events, and even creating the life-size shark that hung outside the house. His service as recruitment chairman and alumni chairman helped him develop communication and persuasion skills while making meaningful new connections with alumni.
Life beyond college
Andy utilized the professional skills he gained through SigEp to start a lucrative career in sales. Throughout the years, he embraced positions in different industries to advance his career before finding his niche in legal work with AmLaw 200 firms.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed partnering with law firm leaders on both the practice and operations sides of the business. I plan to continue consulting as a ‘trusted advisor’ until the fun wears off!”
Bonds built to last
Decades beyond college, Andy remains connected with SigEps in the Orange County and Los Angeles metro areas. He gathers with fellow alumni several times each year and appreciates annual “Hotter ‘N Hell” desert trips with a core group of brothers.
“There is a unique bond you share with pledge brothers and those you went to school with, but there’s also a special connection with those who came before and after us. The stories might come from different decades, but they share a common denominator: California Delta is a special place that creates relationships that truly transcend time.”
Andy and his wife have been married for 34 years and have two successful adult sons. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, traveling and drinking wine.
