For Scott Diggs, East Carolina ’89 and Paul Adkison, ’91, Sigma Phi Epsilon experiences paved the way connection while staying involved with their alma mater decades beyond graduation.
“I was fortunate to have bids from many fraternities, but the guys I met at SigEp were the cream of the crop,” Scott said. Meanwhile, Paul, who attended ECU for football, joined SigEp after wanting to get more involved on campus. Chapter service taught them leadership and management skills that prepared them for responsibilities in the professional world.
They appreciated the chapter’s various social and philanthropy opportunities, and Paul is especially proud of North Carolina Kappa’s Buchanan Cup during his presidency in 1989. “It was monumental for our Fraternity.”
BUILDING ON THEIR BOND
Beyond college, Scott and Paul explored entrepreneurship opportunities while staying in touch. The chance arose to merge business ventures in 2014, founding Co-X Holdings. “I came up with a business we were starting up and originally approached Scott as an investor,” Paul added. The two pride themselves on working with partners of high integrity, including multiple SigEp alumni. Co-X Holdings currently invests and owns numerous companies founded by Scott and Paul, and they are excited about working on a new Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Greenville.
“It’s going to be a great experience for our university and Fraternity brothers to come back together,” Scott said about the impact of the development on the community. Furthering their commitment to ECU, Scott and Paul have served on North Carolina Kappa’s alumni board for several years, donating time and funds toward the brotherhood.
The duo also contributed $125,000 to establish the Adkison and Diggs Access Scholarship Endowment to support young entrepreneurs and other business students at ECU. Their endowment comes alongside active involvement in creating the school’s entrepreneurship program. “Even a 25% or 50% scholarship for students can make such a big difference.”
