Friday’s Brotherhood Luncheon at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street offered a meaningful pause to reflect on Sigma Phi Epsilon’s third cardinal principle — brotherly love.
Honoring Those We’ve Lost
The ceremony began with the Necrology and invocation, led by Matt Parrish, Georgia ’07, as attendees paid tribute to brothers who have entered the Chapter Eternal since our last Conclave.
Near the registration area, brothers shared heartfelt messages and memories on the Chapter Eternal Memorial, writing notes on paper roses in remembrance of those we’ve lost.
SigEp Fellow Recognition
The luncheon continued with the presentation of the SigEp Fellow Award, which celebrates brothers who have completed a 500-hour service-learning project for the betterment of their campus or community. These brothers exemplify leadership, compassion, and the heart of servant leadership.
This year’s SigEp Fellows included:
When Sean Croker noticed a lack of connection among students and staff at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, he created a free worship event open to the entire campus. Held inside the university’s arena in May 2024, the event drew over 7,000 attendees for uplifting music and messages from Christian speakers.
By the event’s end, 150 attendees were baptized. The success inspired Sean to continue — a second event raised $78,000, enabling him to reach even more people with his message of faith.
Clayton-Doud Award
Rooted in the legacy of Jim Clayton, Tennessee ’57, and Wally Doud, Wisconsin ’48, the Clayton-Doud Award recognizes brothers who show up in times of need, offering support, generosity, and brotherhood when it matters most.
This year’s recipients:
Paul Clune, South Carolina ’25
While traveling with his chapter on a charter bus, a tire blew out and the bus struck a concrete barrier. The driver was ejected, and the vehicle kept moving at high speed. Sitting behind the driver, Paul jumped into action, took the wheel, and safely brought the bus to a stop — saving everyone onboard and others on the road.
Avery Erickson, South Dakota State ’27
Avery noticed his brother struggling emotionally and took time to check in regularly. He also connected the brother with mental health resources on campus. Thanks to Avery’s compassion, this brother is now healthier, happier, and more connected — a powerful act of brotherly love.
Honor of Philias
The Honor of Philias recognizes exceptional demonstrations of brotherly love — acts of service, compassion, and commitment that inspire us all. Each honoree receives a grant to a nonprofit of their choice, extending the impact of their service.
This year’s recipient:
Justin Dario, Florida ’27
When the family of a close friend and chapter brother faced financial hardship, Justin launched a fundraiser in their honor. Despite not being a runner, he pledged to run for donations — $5 per mile. He ultimately ran an incredible 260 miles, donating the proceeds to the family.
His selflessness and determination showed what it truly means to live out brotherly love in action.
A Luncheon of Legacy and Love
With heartfelt remarks from emcee Matt Parrish, the Brotherhood Luncheon served as a powerful reminder that brotherly love goes far beyond shared letters or chapter meetings.
It lives in the sacrifices we make, the support we offer, and the communities we build.
By honoring both the past and present, SigEp continues to chart a future rooted in love, leadership, and lifelong brotherhood.
