Although Ralph Herz, South Florida ’16, doesn’t graduate until December, his achievements throughout his undergraduate career have already earned him a spot on the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 list.
A finance and accounting major, Herz currently works as a summer investment banking analyst while maintaining a GPA above 3.9.
At 6 years old, Herz had already begun selling things he found around him and making a little bit of cash. This spark in entrepreneurship led to a love for numbers and business that followed him into college.
“I was elated and excited when I found out I had been chosen to receive the 25 Under 25 honor,” Herz said. “I felt honored to be in a group with such successful people.”
Among those on the list are Herz’s peers in marketing, accounting and management programs at his university. What makes him stand out is his involvement as a brother of SigEp and the experience he has gained as a chapter officer.
As the current chapter president and former vice president of finance, Herz points to SigEp as a force in his personal and career development.
“SigEp has allowed me to become significantly more diligent in my work,” Herz said. “It has helped me get used to sometimes crazy-late hours of work and prepared me to always be ready at a moment’s notice.”
On top of diligence, Herz has gained invaluable experience in networking and working with different teams of people as chapter president. Managing an executive board and building relationships with other Greek life organizations are all skills that will come handy in his future career in finance.
“I look forward to seeing where my career opportunities take me,” Herz said. “I aim to later open my own financial services firm and build it into a successful company.”
With these aspirations in mind, Herz still reflects on the relationships he has formed with his brothers and how it will take him further in life. While going through recruitment, he realized SigEp was the chapter for him after hearing how his chapter brothers shaved their heads in solidarity for a brother who underwent chemotherapy.
“I know that the people in SigEp will be guys that I will remain best friends with for the rest of my life and will always be there,” Herz said. “You can’t find that in other college organizations.”
As Herz starts his last semester this fall, he has gained the experience necessary to achieve outside of his university and embark in a new role in SigEp as an alumnus.
“Being in SigEp has helped mold my attitude, work ethic and determination into what I need to succeed in my career,” Herz said.
