Announcing the 2019 Exemplary Service Award Recipients

Categories: Alumni & Volunteer News, Fraternity News

The rosette given to recipients of the Exemplary Service Award

SigEp is excited to announce the 2019 recipients of the Exemplary Service Award! These dedicated volunteers have served SigEp for at least 20 years, and they will be honored at the closing dinner of the Carlson Leadership Academy in their region.

Jeff Gates, Wichita State ’89
Feb. 2, Dallas Carlson
Since serving as a Student Director, Jeff Gates has shown a high level of commitment to SigEp that continues to inspire those around him today. He began volunteering with Wichita State right after graduating, and served for many years as an AVC officer at both Wichita State and Emporia State. Jeff has served chapters throughout Kansas and Nebraska as district governor and lieutenant district governor.

David McLaughlin, Minnesota ’92
Feb. 9, Chicago Carlson
A volunteer since graduation, Dave has served SigEp faithfully at Minnesota Alpha and throughout the upper Midwest. From 1995 to 2007, he was AVC president at Minnesota Alpha, and was district governor for district 17 from 2007 until last year. He’s recruited over 40 new volunteers, has served on multiple SigEp task forces, attended 15 Conclaves, facilitated six different Carlson tracks and is a member of the National Advancement Council.

Franklin “Bud” Robeson, Cincinnati ’68
Feb. 16, Atlanta Carlson
Bud began his volunteer involvement in 1994 as a member of the Technology Task Force. Since then, he’s been a member of the National Leadership Committee and two other task forces. A longtime business professor at the College of William & Mary, Bud served the Virginia Delta chapter as faculty fellow in 1999 and then helped lead Virginia Pi at Christopher Newport as AVC president from 2003 to 2009. He has been AVC president at Virginia Delta since 2010.

Ken Christianson, Washington State ’74
Feb. 23, Woodland Hills, Calif. Carlson
Ken began volunteering for SigEp in 1998. In that time, he’s served his chapter as AVC president, vice president of communications and fundraising, and vice president of property management. After his Washington State chapter closed in 2003, Ken spearheaded an $800,000 capital campaign for housing and scholarships. A life trustee of the SigEp Educational Foundation, he’s been a member of the SigEp National Housing Board since 2015.

Stephen Buce, Stevens ’86
March 2, Stamford, Conn. Carlson
Steve approached the Headquarters staff and university officials with the idea of bringing New Jersey Alpha back to campus — and volunteered countless hours to get the new chapter up and running. New Jersey Alpha has gone on to receive several Buchanan Cups and consistently has the highest GPA on campus. Steve’s been heavily involved in developing the chapter’s learning community and also mentors the chapter’s finance committee.
