Kent B. Hickman Scholarship

Brother Kent B. Hickman, Colorado ’61, believed deeply in investing in young leaders and giving back to the Fraternity that had shaped his life. Through the Kent B. Hickman Rising Leaders Endowment, the Hickman scholarship supports Kent's vision of extending the unique value of SigEp leadership programs beyond executive board members to make these opportunities more accessible to promising chapter brothers.

This scholarship opportunity supports rising leaders at the Carlson Leadership Academies and Grand Chapter Conclave. The monies granted to selected Hickman scholars provide registration, lodging, and transportation assistance to undergraduate members who have not, and do not hold an executive leadership position in their chapter.

Applications

Scholars must apply and be selected to receive this scholarship. Scholars must be an active undergraduate member of SigEp, and have never held, and do not currently hold, an executive officer position. Executive officer positions include Chapter President, Chaplain, Vice President of Recruitment, Vice President of Member Development, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Communications, and the Vice President of SigEp Learning Community.

Ideal candidates aspire to be leaders in the chapter and are attending an upcoming leadership program that offers education and track(s) for rising leaders.

Applications will be reviewed by SigEp’s Educational Foundation and selected scholars will be invited to attend the appropriate leadership program.

Applications for Hickman scholars for the Carlson Leadership Academy are now open, and will close on October 31, 2026. You can apply through mySigEp here.

Leadership Programs

CARLSON LEADERSHIP ACADEMY:

At Carlsons, Hickman scholars attend the Growth Skills program, which offers an interactive experience combining foundational leadership principles with practical skill development. Participants will explore the purpose behind leadership in SigEp, develop a growth mindset, strengthen communication and persuasion skills, and learn practical strategies for influencing others and driving positive change.

Room and room fees/taxes at the host hotel are covered through this scholarship, and Hickman scholars are paired (2 men per sleeping room) for the weekend. A transportation reimbursement stipend equal to $0.15/mile roundtrip (from the scholar’s campus to the hotel, and back) can be requested at the close of the program to each Hickman scholar.
