Brotherhood Questionnaire

The fifth annual Brotherhood Questionnaire wrapped up on Friday, Nov. 4. Chapters that achieved 100% participation received a percentage-based discount on their 2023 Spring Insurance and Member Safety Bill. All chapters with at least 40% of their members who completed the survey received a customized chapter report with unique insights into their chapter.

Leveraging Your Results:

On March 30, 2023, SigEp hosted a webinar, where participants learned about the big-picture survey results and trends, as well as how to interpret their chapter’s specific results and turn those into actionable steps.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer with years of experience, or a chapter officer trying to plan out your summer and fall, this webinar recording below is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about your brothers and chapter to help you continue to shape the SigEp experience and achieve your goals.

Here is what you can expect to learn from this recorded webinar:

  • Why SigEp does the Brotherhood Questionnaire and what we can learn from the outcomes.
  • Tips for understanding and turning your chapter-specific results into actionable plan for improvement.
  • Trends in SigEp in comparison to other fraternities.

Gentry McCreary, the CEO & Managing Partner of Dyad Strategies, joined us to unpack these topics. Dyad Strategies helped administer the Annual Brotherhood Questionnaire and works with fraternities and sororities to help the organizations improve in meaningful ways.

Past Results:

The last five years of conducting the Brotherhood Questionnaire have been great to better understand SigEp's impact on the lives of our members. Thanks to the thousands of members who have participated in the annual survey, we've been able to assess member satisfaction, motivation to join, and brotherhood, these survey results have provided meaningful data and actionable steps for executive boards to improve their chapters.

Nationally, our results relative to other fraternities have proven that SigEp is on the right path towards being a valued partner in higher education and a worthwhile investment for potential new members. Check out the last four years' results below or request your own chapter's results.

Breaking Down 2021's Results:

In the third episode of "Off Script, On Purpose", Grand President Billy Maddalon talks with Gentry McCreary, the CEO and Managing Partner of Dyad Strategies, who works with SigEp to survey our 12,000 undergraduate brothers each fall about the Fraternity experience. Listen to hear about the results of the fall 2021 survey, including brotherhood, belonging, satisfaction and chapter culture. We discuss how SigEp compares to other fraternities, as well as how this data could help us forecast in the decade ahead.

The Impact of COVID-19:

Chapters that adapted and innovated using SigEp's COVID-19 guidance and virtual resources saw positively trending results, while many chapters saw a decrease in overall member satisfaction. Listen to the podcast episodes below or read the Dyad Strategies whitepaper, "The Impact of COVID-19 on the Fraternity Experience: Three Disturbing Trends" to better understand these trends.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the purpose of the survey?

SigEp needs to be able to understand the needs of our brothers and the impact our programs have. When we understand this, we can better provide service, improve our programs, ask others to support our programs, partner with higher education, and help recruit the right type of member for our organization. All of this can only happen if we can demonstrate that our programs and the SigEp experience is beneficial to our brothers.

Who should complete the survey?

Our goal is for every undergraduate brother to complete this survey. The more brothers that participate in the survey, the better equipped we are to improve our programs to meet your needs.

Are there incentives for completing the survey?

All chapters that achieve a 100% participation rate will receive a discount on their Spring 2023 Insurance and Member Safety Bill. Chapters will be credited for 20% of the chapter base fee or 5% off the per-man tier fees, whichever is higher.

Chapters that achieve at least 40% completion will receive a customized chapter report this Spring.

Is the survey anonymous?

Yes, the survey responses are anonymous. We are only able to sort responses by chapter in order to provide you with your chapter report.

How often will we receive this survey?

The survey is annual. This will allow your chapter to compare data each year to mark growth and opportunities for improvement. This is our second year distributing the survey. You can find each years' results above!

Will we receive a chapter breakdown of our results?

Every chapter with at least 40% completion will receive a chapter-specific report with information about their chapter and their brothers. This will include opinions about the culture of your chapter and the experience being provided. This information is invaluable as chapter leaders to help you better meet the needs of your brothers. It will also help SigEp improve our programs and services which benefit each and every chapter.

Who is Dyad Strategies?

Dyad Strategies is an intellectual powerhouse of higher education professionals who deliver a wide range of consulting services for schools, universities, and organizations. They’ve got the necessary tools and expertise to help SigEp measure and improve in meaningful ways.

Will this data be utilized for any disciplinary action against a chapter?

No, the purpose of the survey is to better understand the member experience and to provide data for more informed decision making on the chapter and national level. Disciplinary action within SigEp is based on violations of policy; the responses to the survey will not be utilized to trigger any disciplinary action.
