Carlson Leadership Academies

Undergraduate brothers run for executive board positions because they have a vision and big goals for their chapter. Make sure you’re a leader worth following! Attending Carlson Leadership Academy gives new officers a boost of personal leadership development, focused on gaining the skills to help them inspire brothers, manage a committee and follow through on those goals. Officers will also build a supportive cohort of brothers in their roles to network with throughout the year.

Officer and volunteer education

In 2023, eight executive officers will have tracks dedicated to their role:

  • President
  • VP communications
  • VP finance
  • VP member development
  • VP programming
  • VP recruitment
  • VP SigEp Learning Community
  • Chaplain

Additionally, up-and-coming chapter leaders can attend Carlson in the Rising Leaders track. Designed for talented young brothers with the desire to step into chapter officer positions in the future, this leadership orientation will prepare members to further their skills in important areas like project management, delegation and collaboration.

Carlson is not just for undergraduate leaders! Volunteer-specific education, featuring both foundational training and role-based roundtables, will be featured at every program. Learn more about volunteer training at Carlson.

Coming to a city near you

In 2023, eight programs will be held across the country from mid-January through February in the following locations. Your chapter has been slated to attend the program closest to your campus. Find your location in the list below! If your chapter needs to change to a different program location, email events@sigep.net, and the staff will help you explore your options.

FAQs

Who should plan to attend Carlson?

Carlson programming will focus on eight executive officers: chapter president, VP of member development, VP of recruitment, chaplain, VP of SigEp Learning Community, VP of communications, VP of finance and VP of programming. Every newly elected officer in these roles should plan to attend. Because the programming is tailored and specific to officers currently in this role, replacements may not be sent in their place if the elected brother cannot attend.

A track for rising leaders will also be geared towards brothers who hope to hold an executive board position in the future. It will focus on the building blocks of great leadership. This track is perfect for committee chairmen, other non-executive board officers and up-and-coming leaders.

Carlson is not just for undergraduate leaders! Volunteer-specific education, featuring both foundational training and role-based roundtables, will be featured at every program. Click here to learn more about volunteer training.

Which Carlson will my chapter attend? Can we go to any program?

Your chapter has been slated for the specific Carlson closest to your campus. Visit the registration page and search for your chapter to find your program. If you have a conflict and cannot attend that Carlson program, email events@sigep.net and the staff will help you explore your options.

How much will it cost to attend Carlson?

The registration and lodging for all eight executive board officers is fully covered by a combination of the chapter’s fall bill and generous donations to the SigEp Educational Foundation’s Annual Fund. In short, the eight executive board officers will not need to pay anything additional for registration or lodging.

All undergraduates attending the Rising Leaders track are responsible for a $300 registration fee and their own lodging costs. This year, SigEp is excited to offer $150 off the regular $300 fee to the first 200 rising leaders that register using the code MYFUTURE.

You say that lodging is covered for the executive board officers. How does that work?

The Fraternity will make your hotel reservation based on the officers registered from your chapter.

  • If you send five to eight officers, we will reserve two rooms for you for arrival on Friday and departure on Sunday. The room/tax will be paid for by the Fraternity.
  • If you send four or fewer officers, we will reserve one room for you (also for arrival on Friday and departure on Sunday).

I know lodging for rising leaders isn’t covered in their registration fee. Can they just stay in a hotel room with their executive board officers?

Our Carlson hotel partners only allow four adults per sleeping room. If your executive board officers have extra space in their room (ex: only seven officers can come, so there is one space left), then yes, the rising leader can stay in that hotel room. However, if you do not have extra space, you must reserve and pay for an additional hotel room. If you choose to break hotel policy and have more than four men in a room, you risk being asked to leave by the hotel staff.

How do I register or sign up for Carlson?

Visit the registration page, search for your chapter and click the corresponding link!

When should we arrive at Carlson? And when should we plan to leave?

The opening kickoff will begin promptly at 8 p.m. Friday evening. Plan to check in (and eat dinner!) prior. Programming will continue throughout Saturday, wrapping up after dinner around 8:30 p.m. Most attendees will stay Saturday evening at the hotel and depart Sunday at their leisure.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?
