Board of Governors Weekend FAQs
Do I have to be fully vaccinated to attend?
All BOG weekend attendees must provide proof of full vaccination due to Puerto Rican government guidelines for organized events and gatherings. You are considered fully vaccinated if you’ve received two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. While not required, if you’ve received a third dose or booster shot for any of the listed vaccines, you are considered fully vaccinated as well!
You will upload your proof of full vaccination during registration, so please have an image of your vaccination card or documentation ready for upload. Please also plan to bring your proof of vaccination with you to the island as it is required to show upon arrival at the airport and when checking into the hotel.

What sort of COVID precautions will be in place?
As of this fall, the highest rate of COVID-19 vaccination in the U.S. is in Puerto Rico, where more than 73% of the total population is fully vaccinated. Even more impressive is that Puerto Rico has become a global leader in preventing new cases. Its positive case rate is hovering around 2%, second only to New Zealand.
Your health and safety is our top priority, so prepare to wear a mask when traveling in the airport, in rideshares and taxis, and when entering the hotel or restaurants in San Juan. As of this fall, the Puerto Rican government is requiring masks in all closed spaces and at all outdoor activities of 50 attendees or more regardless of vaccination status. Please know that situations and mandates may change before April.
Do I need a passport to enter Puerto Rico?
You do not need a passport to enter Puerto Rico as it is a U.S. territory.
What is the attire for the weekend?
Plan to pack resort casual attire for the most “formal” events during this weekend, but the rest of the weekend will be very casual. Our beach party on Friday evening will be more laid back and we encourage you to wear shorts, dresses and warm-weather attire. Shoes won’t be required as your toes will be in the sand of Isla Verde! For Saturday night’s dinner, khakis, linen pants, and slacks are appropriate to pair with collared shirts for men while dresses, skirts, capris and blouses are appropriate for women.
Also plan to pack bathing suits, sandals and comfortable casual clothing for excursions and off-site activities during the day! The hotel provides beach and pool towels, but prepare for warm weather and sunshine with hats, sunscreen and the like!
How much is it to attend? Are there any additional expenses we should be aware of?
Through February 15, the early bird rate is $495/person. Starting February 16, the rate is $595/person.
Registration includes attendance to this exclusive weekend, SigEp swag, the beach party on Friday evening and the dinner on Saturday night. Hotel and travel costs are your responsibility. There are three private excursion options that are an additional cost per participant: a catamaran sail ($175/person), walking food tour of Old San Juan ($175/person) and Casa Bacardi tour and mixology class ($150/person). You can learn more and pre-pay for those during registration.
Where are we staying and where is it in relation to the airport and San Juan?
We’re spending the weekend at the Royal Sonesta San Juan. This resort hotel is located on Isla Verde beach, which is 5-10 minutes from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and 15-25 minutes from the city of Old San Juan.
Once on the island, what’s the best way to get around?
Uber is readily available in Puerto Rico and so are taxis. If you are renting a car, there is an Avis rental car booth at the Royal Sonesta and parking at the hotel is $20/day for self parking and $25/day for valet parking.
Who is invited to join this weekend?
All current members of the Board of Governors family are invited and encouraged to attend along with their spouse/guest(s).
