The Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Volunteer Awards, presented annually at Carlson Leadership Academies, recognize devoted and productive service at the chapter, district, regional and/or national level for a minimum of 10 years. The recipients of these awards have produced positive, tangible and sustainable results for the betterment of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Members of Sigma Phi Epsilon are awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award and non-member volunteers are awarded the Distinguished Volunteer Award. These awards may only be presented to recipients once.
A pewter Jefferson Cup is presented to each Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Volunteer recipient at the Carlson Leadership Academies each spring. If possible, recipients should be present at the Carlson closing banquet to receive the award. In cases where the recipient is unable to be in attendance, the award will be provided to the recipient's Alumni and Volunteer Corporation for presention during an appropriate event at the local level.
Undergraduate chapter members, Alumni and Volunteer Corporation members, and district governors may submit nominations to the National Board of Directors.
